From tracking symptoms and avoiding triggers to managing medications and appointments, there’s a lot to keep track of when you live with systemic mastocytosis (SM). Fortunately, there are a number of mobile apps that can help make navigating daily life with SM a bit easier.
MastHave
MastHave is an app developed by experts in mastocytosis specifically for individuals living with the rare disease.
By answering easy-to-understand questionnaires, you’ll be able to record your symptoms and potential triggers each day. This data can help you and your doctor easily track changes or patterns in your symptoms, evaluate the effectiveness of medications and see what lifestyle or treatment options help you feel better.

The app is designed to let you easily share this information with your provider through a PDF or QR code. MastHave is available in four languages and five countries, including the U.S.
Food Intolerances App
Certain foods may activate mast cells and trigger SM symptoms. While the disease affects each person differently, common culprits include foods and drinks that are high in histamine, including alcohol, nuts and seafood.
As such, some individuals with SM may choose to go on low-histamine or elimination diets to avoid potential triggers.
The Food Intolerances app allows you to check if a food contains histamine or a number of other allergens, including lactose, fructose and sorbitol. The database contains a wide range of foods and lists all sources to ensure transparency.
Medisafe
Many people with SM may need to take multiple medications to manage symptoms and prevent complications, especially if they have more advanced or aggressive forms of the disease.
Medisafe is a user-friendly medication reminder and management app that alerts you when it’s time to take your meds so you never miss a dose. The app can also be set up to send notifications to caregivers and loved ones.
Allergy Plus by Pollen.com
Environmental triggers like pollen, mold or poor air quality can aggravate mast cell activity. While each person with SM is different, part of successfully managing the condition involves avoiding or limiting your exposure to your individual triggers.
The Allergy Plus app provides daily forecasts for weather, pollen levels and air quality. This can help you plan your outings and take preventive meds if needed.
Bearable
SM symptoms can impact multiple parts of your body, including the skin, gut, muscles and your mental health; keeping a symptom diary is often recommended. Bearable offers a comprehensive health tracker that lets you log symptoms, mood, energy levels, meals, physical activity, sleep, medications and more.
According to the app’s website, more than 900,000 members use the app who have a wide array of chronic conditions, including mast cell disorders. By tracking all your health data in one place, you can learn what’s improving and worsening your health and make better informed decisions about your lifestyle and care. You can easily export this data to your doctor so you can review the information together and discuss any changes to your treatment plan that may be needed.
